Straight to the Bar
is a gathering place for all strength enthusiasts, and I can't recommend it enough. Scott Bird runs this empire out of Australia. Come join the discussion and find everything you need to know in the articles and videos in the archives - strength training, powerlifting, strongman, bodybuilding, and more. I'm a forum moderator and I write for this site. My page is here.

Virtual Meet - Possibly the perfect online grassroots concept. Compete ina RAW powerlifting or weightlifting meet from wherever you are. Finlander Kristoffer Lindqvist has created "geographically dispersed meets" for a global community. Simply sign up for scheduled meets, confirm you have been drugfree for 8 years, and film your lifts according to the rules. Clips are edited into a cohesive meet, judged, and scored with relative strength formulas. Nothing official, just for the fun of it! Warmly welcomes lifters at any level. My page is here.

Whenever I consider expanding the training info on this site, I just visit stumptuous.com and Bodytribe Fitness to remind myself it's all been done - and how.

In Stumptuous, feminist, grappler and weightlifter Krista Scott provides an outstanding free resource for females interested in lifting - any level, any discipline. It is jammed with smartly-written articles, irony, inspiration, and an excellent trove of links, including one to the fabled tuna shake recipe. This woman truly rocks. My page is here.

In Bodytribe Fitnesss, Sacramento gym owner and revolutionary guru Chip Conrad dispenses his unique perspective on living a physical lifestyle, in a manner that's as humorous as it is deeply philosophical. Chip is singularly amazing on many levels, and you're just not well-rounded in all things fitness until you've spent some time with him. Go buy his books and DVDs. No really, just do it.

The Amazon Connection is where the Amazons converge. Thomas Gramstad chronicles strong, heroic, warrior and athletic women throughout history - in real life, fantasy lore, and pop culture. A great source of inspiration, beauty, validation and identity.

Women's Boxing Archive Network (WBAN) is the online reporting authority on female boxing. This labor of love by Sue TL Fox provides full coverage of the sport, its bouts and stats, the boxers, the resources and links. For a modest subscription fee, you can get access to live streaming of matches and more. June, 2008 marked WBAN's 10th anniversary online. Read my review of the book One Ring Circus on WBAN..

Genex Online magazine provides the most comprehensive and timely coverage of female bodybuilding in the world. Run with reverence by exceptional physique photographers Gene X Hwang and James Cook, it's loaded with eye-popping photos. Don't expect all of these chicks to be natural, but it's still an outstanding resource for inspiration and keeping up with the female bodybuilding world.

The Organization of Competitive Bodybuilders, home of Fitness & Physique magazine, has an active discussion forum and articles with information on natural physique competition. I've been closely involved with this excellent organization - competing, judging, marketing - and have written for the mag.

The Exercise Group encompasses the INBF& WNBF - and several magazines I have written for, including Natural Bodybuilding & Fitness. I've competed with the INBF and did my internship with the editorial staff in grad school. They've been around a long time.

The Diet Doc - Dr. Joe Klemczewski is nutritionist to the natural bodybuilding stars - and me. His website is a great resource not only for bodybuilders but for anyone seeking education on the healthy approach to dieting and contest preparation. You'll find my articles there, too.

Ironmind sells "tools of the trade for serious strength athletes." This site is mostly valuable for its online store - books on sandbag work outs, Jim Schmitz instructional Olympic lifting DVDs, plus tools for Strongman training, grip strength and a candy store of stuff for real work strength training that's hard to find anywhere else. If they had an affiliate program, I'd join, but for now, I'm happy to prop them for free.

Finally! A sophisticated, classy resource designed for female bodybuilders: fbbworld.com. Jason Goy offers from London "a site that is easy to use, stylish, and above all else, showcases the athletes and their dedication to the sport of bodybuilding." With the proliferation of sites catering to the fetish crowd, this site is deliverance. My page is here.
UPDATE: This site appears to be dead. I'm leaving it up here in case it resurrects.
